Widgit community – supporting our local food bank
June 2024
Providing temporary escape from hunger in a safe and compassionate environment, we proudly support the work of the Trussell Trust – delivering dignified support to families from all backgrounds locked in crisis across the UK.
Between April 2023 and March 2024, Trussell Trust food banks distributed over 3.1 million emergency food parcels across the nation, of which more than a staggering 1 million were allocated for children. While we share in the trust’s vision to end the need for food banks, there’re still a long way to go in the battle against hunger and poverty.
This June, our head of customer success Cheryl rallied the team to raid their cupboards in aid of our local Warwick food bank, and what a result! From cereals and sanitary items to canned and bottled goods (and not forgetting the tea and biscuits), we were delighted to gather a Widgit food bundle weighing in at 118.2kg – delivered by our very own 3rd line technical support Charlie, and customer success advisor Laura.
From food banks to the Leamington Winter Support (LWS) Night Shelter, we’re committed to supporting our local communities throughout the year. For the past few Decembers, our reverse advent calendar has provided staff members with a shopping list of much-needed essentials over the festive period. With a new item behind every door (from corned beef to toilet roll), the idea is to collect these items (or as many as staff are able) throughout the month. These are then boxed up, wrapped in Widgit paper, and merrily delivered direct to the shelter. (It may be a little early, but we’re already looking forward to this year’s calendar!)
Thanks to all Widgit staff for their continued support as we give back to the community where we can. To find out more or to make a donation, please see the links below:
